A Multi-Media Presentation featuring Live Original Music

Implicit Bias Inside and Outside the Workplace-- and What We Can Do About It
​
A multi-media presentation developed for professionals to reduce the unconscious bias we all have, in order to increase inclusivity and cultural competence, inside and outside the workplace. Through personal stories, images, video testimonials of neuroscientists and other scholars in the field, participants will gain an understanding of implicit (unconscious) bias: what it is, how it manifests itself, and what we can do about it. Interwoven throughout this session--from scientific findings to a frank look at microaggressions-- the presenter performs several original songs that feature compelling lyrics and improvised solos on tenor and soprano saxophones and flute. The musical component provides balance and helps to create a space in which participants can reflect more openly on some very challenging concepts.
